Speedway Road Ruritan Club
When you step onto the grounds of Wilkes Community College during MerleFest, the first people with whom you come into contact are the volunteers from Wilkes County's Speedway Road Ruritan Club. They are the smiling faces who take your ticket and put on your wristband as you enter through the main entrance tent. If you arrive without a ticket, they will sell you one at the gate.
These folks work hard during the festival so that they can give back to the community. Speedway Ruritan spokesperson Denna Parsons says, "We help those in need through difficult times in their lives. We are dedicated to improving our community through fellowship, goodwill, and community service. Ruritans are neighbors helping neighbors."
The club members find that it is always a thrill to be involved with MerleFest. "It gives us a great opportunity to work for our county in one of the biggest events Wilkes has ever developed. It is also a great opportunity for our club members to get together, work hard and enjoy one another's fellowship. In addition, volunteers have the privilege to enjoy the festival after working their shift."
The Speedway Road Ruritan Club ensures that ticket sales are handled responsibly and efficiently during MerleFest each year. Their festival experience is truly a benefit to their members, the community, and to MerleFest. Thank you Ruritans!
